Mr Myles Smith is a Surgical Oncologist specialising in the surgery of soft tissue sarcomas, malignant melanoma, and other rare tumours. He has both a private and an NHS practice at The Royal Marsden. In 2015, he took up a substantive post with the Sarcoma, Melanoma, and Rare Tumours (SMART) service of The Royal Marsden, and joined The Institute of Cancer Research in 2017.

He has developed specialist surgical oncology practice, with special interests in soft-tissue sarcoma, melanoma and advanced skin cancer. He also has an interest in pelvic surgery and minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery for GIST. He set up the Chelsea Lump Clinic at the Chelsea Outpatient Centre, and has an interest in the diagnosis and management of lumps and bumps. With regards to general surgery, he retains an interest in hernia repairs (including complex abdominal wall hernias after cancer surgery) and benign anorectal disorders.

Mr Smith completed his surgical training in Ireland, as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Higher Surgical Training scheme in 1998. After graduation, he joined the General Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Toronto, before taking up a post at The Royal Marsden. His postgraduate research degree with Professors TG Cotter (Biochemistry & Cell Biology, BioSciences Institute), and HP Redmond (Department of Surgery) in University College Cork, Ireland, investigated the effect of tumour heterogeneity of molecular profiles, and the mechanisms driving local recurrence after cancer surgery. Mr Smith's research subsequently has focused on molecular biomarkers in solid tumours, including incorporating new imaging techniques into the surgical cancer pathway.
