Professor Dae Kim is a distinguished consultant ENT and thyroid surgeon based in London. He is affiliated with the Royal Marsden Hospital and St George's University Teaching Hospital. Professor Kim is dual-qualified in both medicine and dentistry, having studied at Edinburgh University and Birmingham University, respectively. He completed his specialist ENT surgery training in the West Midlands and pursued advanced fellowships in head and neck oncology and endocrine surgery.
Professor Kim has a particular interest in minimally-invasive 'scarless' robotic and endoscopic thyroid surgery. He trained under renowned surgeons and oncologists at the Toronto General Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. He further honed his skills in minimally-invasive 'keyhole' thyroid and parathyroid surgery under Professors David Terris and Paulo Miccoli. Additionally, he completed a Robotic and Endoscopic Thyroid Surgery Fellowship at the Severance Endoscopic and Robotic Institute in Seoul.
An academic ‘surgeon-scientist,’ Professor Kim has conducted extensive research at Harvard University and Birmingham University, earning a PhD and the prestigious 'Syme Medal' from the Royal College of Surgeons. His research focuses on thyroid cancer and surgery, including the role of immunotherapy in aggressive thyroid cancers and circulating DNA as a novel biomarker. He supervises several MD/PhD research fellows and has secured over £2.5 million in research funding.
Professor Kim is an active contributor to international textbooks and a faculty member at various international training courses and surgical societies. He serves on the Council of the Royal Society of Medicine and advises the National Institute of Clinical Excellence. His clinical expertise includes head and neck cancer surgery, functional endoscopic sinus surgery, and a wide range of ENT procedures.
